"One must be for ever drunken: that is the sole question of importance. If you would not feel the horrible burden of Time that bruises your shoulders and bends you to the earth, you must be drunken without cease. But how? With wine, with poetry, with virtue, with what you please. But be drunken. And if sometimes, on the steps of a palace, on the green grass by a moat, or in the dull loneliness of your chamber, you should waken up, your intoxication already lessened or gone, ask of the wind, of the wave, of the star, of the bird, of the timepiece; ask of all that flees, all that sighs, all that revolves, all that sings, all that speaks, ask of these the hour; and wind and wave and star and bird and timepiece will answer you: 'It is the hour to be drunken! Lest you be the martyred slaves of Time, intoxicate yourselves, be drunken without cease! With wine, with poetry, with virtue, or with what you will.'"

Blimey. But they probably didn't have a snowgrouse. I haven't read the books, but I like the music on the site for some reason.

[ETA: I bloody well am NOT modest or humble? Do you gals and guys really see me as that? I certainly am not that on the internet, I'm an arrogant know-it-all bastard, IMNSHO. Hee:D. Go ahead, make me a kitty!:D]

The books are great!

I know I should give them a go...

Sorry I changed you to a mouse. You will be able to change me when I get my link.
kalypso_v From: [info]kalypso_v Date: April 26th, 2007 01:04 pm (UTC) (Link)
She's had a butterfly, a mouse and a fox so far when I've looked.
_moirah_ From: [info]_moirah_ Date: April 26th, 2007 02:47 pm (UTC) (Link)
I wonder if the animal is completely random.
kalypso_v From: [info]kalypso_v Date: April 26th, 2007 03:02 pm (UTC) (Link)
I don't know on what principle they're changing, but they seem to change only when someone else goes through commenting on the person's self-assessment. So I think they're telling the truth about it responding to other people's judgments, and I'd expect [info]snowgrouse's to have more changes than most, because she's got a large number of online friends, many of whom would comment on this sort of thing. Whereas another friend, with a smaller group, changed once when I commented, and hasn't since.
_moirah_ From: [info]_moirah_ Date: April 26th, 2007 03:19 pm (UTC) (Link)
Yup, I actually meant to wonder whether the animal that comes out of a change is random. I think you're correct on what makes the change.
kalypso_v From: [info]kalypso_v Date: April 26th, 2007 03:26 pm (UTC) (Link)
I noticed, when I drew up mine, that the animal on the right shifted through various feline forms as I answered the questions, before sticking with a lynx through the last couple, which I took to mean that when they had less data each answer could make a difference, and when they had more it didn't change so much. So I think they probably have worked out some sort of correlation, because if people can do that on an okcupid quiz, surely something that's obviously cost a lot of money would manage it?
snowgrouse From: [info]snowgrouse Date: April 26th, 2007 03:39 pm (UTC) (Link)
Yup, Kalypso's a very smart lady:). Thanks to both of you!

Moirah, did you want to go more towards the lynx on mine? Did you get a lynx yourself? (What is your power/spirit animal, btw, because I've forgotten? Wasn't it a lynx as well?)
_moirah_ From: [info]_moirah_ Date: April 26th, 2007 04:56 pm (UTC) (Link)
I was just wondering what the animal changes are based on (which animal comes up) since I had also noticed your Daemon shapechanging frequently ^_^ I mean, it doesn't necessarily change shape, does it? If the assessment is similar enough to the previous one?

I originally did get an oscelot but since then Erasmus has been at least a tiger and a spider (yuuugh) and currently he's a wolf.
snowgrouse From: [info]snowgrouse Date: April 26th, 2007 07:33 pm (UTC) (Link)
I meant your spirit animal in RL;).
snowgrouse From: [info]snowgrouse Date: April 26th, 2007 03:35 pm (UTC) (Link)
Really? I wish I'd see 'em in action. I missed the butterfly:(. I wish I was more feline-like, damn it, I've always felt affinity towards them.
kalypso_v From: [info]kalypso_v Date: April 26th, 2007 03:39 pm (UTC) (Link)
I'm getting butterfly for you at the moment, though it was a lynx just before that. Yours seems to change more swiftly and dramatically than anyone else's! Which I think has to be down to a large and diverse group of friends.
kalypso_v From: [info]kalypso_v Date: April 26th, 2007 04:49 pm (UTC) (Link)
OK, I rated you immodest and not-humble as instructed, and you turned from a rabbit (or hare?) into a butterfly again.

But I think the words have remained the same whatever the animal, which is a bit puzzling.
_moirah_ From: [info]_moirah_ Date: April 26th, 2007 04:58 pm (UTC) (Link)
Yup, the words come from the original Daemon, the one first created. And only those words are tested for this particular Daemon.

(Boy do I have too much time on my hands, staring at these Daemons so much ;)
kalypso_v From: [info]kalypso_v Date: April 26th, 2007 05:02 pm (UTC) (Link)
Perhaps they change at the end of the 12 days, when the final version appears? Though since the original test involves many more questions, it means none of the qualities not selected first time round can reappear.
snowgrouse From: [info]snowgrouse Date: April 26th, 2007 07:15 pm (UTC) (Link)
Hare was my original, and now I see a butterfly. Marian just saw an Asian Golden Cat... I want the Eurasian Lynx, damn it!

While we've all been discussing these daemons and cats, Dad showed up today with a loaf of rye bread IN THE SHAPE OF A LYNX. It's one huge LYNX FACE and I managed to take a photo before we all cruelly dismembered its face and ate it.
astrogirl2 From: [info]astrogirl2 Date: April 26th, 2007 11:00 pm (UTC) (Link)
I made you a butterfly again, apparently. :)
snowgrouse From: [info]snowgrouse Date: April 26th, 2007 11:17 pm (UTC) (Link)
Damn, just when I've got my cat wannabe thing going on again! Maybe I am as fickle as a sodding butterfly...
snowgrouse From: [info]snowgrouse Date: April 26th, 2007 03:48 pm (UTC) (Link)
I already had the mouse:). I like mice, especially dormice;).
entropy_house From: [info]entropy_house Date: April 26th, 2007 06:36 pm (UTC) (Link)
Currently a wild cat-- an Asian golden cat.
snowgrouse From: [info]snowgrouse Date: April 26th, 2007 07:25 pm (UTC) (Link)
I'm back to a bloody butterfly now:(
entropy_house From: [info]entropy_house Date: April 26th, 2007 07:32 pm (UTC) (Link)
It's a golden cat when I look at it. And the butterfly (if its the one I've seen on someone else's daemon) is actually a Madagascar Moon Moth.
snowgrouse From: [info]snowgrouse Date: April 26th, 2007 07:34 pm (UTC) (Link)
You're so informative, thank you!:) Moon Moth sounds lush.
snowgrouse From: [info]snowgrouse Date: April 26th, 2007 07:29 pm (UTC) (Link)
Woot, Asian Golden Cat is back!
entropy_house From: [info]entropy_house Date: April 26th, 2007 07:34 pm (UTC) (Link)
Yay! With the number of friends you have, I'd expect your daemon to do a lot of shape-shifting. Mine has only changed once from the original.

sex_ocelot From: [info]sex_ocelot Date: April 26th, 2007 07:38 pm (UTC) (Link)
I wouldn't do that because I am too professional. Even though he is very handsome. [info]edithmatilda also got an ocelot but was not prepared to expose it to public scrutiny because she is a coward. Thus I shall not be offering my sex ocelot services to her ocelot, oh no.

Is your ocelot single at all? I ask for professional purposes.
snowgrouse From: [info]snowgrouse Date: April 26th, 2007 07:41 pm (UTC) (Link)
He is single, and very agile and handsome as well. He prowls about checking out other ocelots, male or female. Although his tastes aren't limited to ocelots, anything with a pulse, you know what they say.
sex_ocelot From: [info]sex_ocelot Date: April 26th, 2007 07:44 pm (UTC) (Link)
He sounds like a very... um... I'm not sure he really needs the assistance of a professional sex ocelot at all.

I shall ask the nuns for their opinion. They are usually surprisingly open-minded, possibly because I am cute and furry.
